Activated sludge procedure (also referred to as Activated sludge process)

With this procedure, the wastewater is biologically cleaned using ►activated sludge (also known as bulking sludge). The microorganisms in the sludge (bacteria, fungi) break down the organic substances: the oxygen required by the microorganisms is added in the activated sludge basin. Once the wastewater has been cleaned, the activated sludge is separated from the wastewater in the secondary sedimentation tank and returned to the activated sludge basin (or disposed of as waste sludge).
